Chikankata Health Services has three key operational areas : Medical and Nursing Services; Education and Learning Experiences and Community Health and Development. The population in this area is more than 90 000 people living in a catchment area of about 100km in diameter. Everyday we treat patients with a range of illnesses and coniditions, the most common being Malaria, Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS (and related oportunistic illnesses), Anemia and Respitatory Infections.
We are the largest and most comprehensive Salvation Army Social Services Centre in the world. All visitors and students are welcome but you need to book well in advance! Please contact Lyndsey Ledger at daftlyns@hotmail.com to apply. We are happy to welcome groups who wish to volunteer in the hospital, projects and communities. Our Community Development Project houses a living area which has an african feel alongside having electricity and cooking facilities and shower and toilet facilities.
