Food distribution in Tondo
The Salvation Army Territorial Headquarters Staff visited together with comrades from Tondo Corps an evacuation center in the Baseco Compound in Tondo, Manila. Cooked food and water was distributed to around 1000 individuals that were left homeless after two empty barges drifted off a pier and rammed their houses along the coastline of Manila Bay at the height of torrential monsoon rain at the aftermath of Typhoon Gener.

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
The advance of The Salvation Army in The Philippines came at the initiative of Filipinos who had been converted through contact with the Army in Hawaii and then returned to their homeland. During the period 1933-37 they commenced meetings in Panay, Luzon, Cebu and Mindanao Islands. In June 1937 Colonel and Mrs Alfred Lindvall officially inaugurated this widespread work.
