GENERAL William Booth Road - A New Way

People of Veerapandipattinam, which is three kilometers away from the seashore of Tuticorin, lost their belonging by the Tsunami disaster. The Salvation Army coordinated with the Government and erected temporary shelters for 16 families at Bilominagar as immediate relief. As there was no proper road Mr.Vijayakumar, Block Development officer approached Major Y. Peter, district officer to help the victims. The request was graciously considered by territorial commander and sanctioned Rs.7, 60,000-00 to lay a new road to Bilominagar. The roadwork was inaugurated by Mr. Chandrasekaran, district collector on 3rd February 2005 and was ready for dedication. The local panchayat was very pleased to approve this new road to be named as THE SALVATION ARMY GENERAL WILLIAM BOOTH ROAD. Commissioner P. D. Krupa Das, territorial commander dedicated this road on 3rd April 2005 for the use of public movement in the presence of Commissioner Mary Rajakumari, Lt.Col.Nallanayagam, Majors Isaac, Alfred, Paramadhas, Natarajan, Annal Peter, Grace Natarajan, Suthananthadhas and Captains Vethamano and Stella Mary.
The Government officials present during this important function appreciated the service of The Salvation Army.Mr.Vijayakumar; BDO expressed his gratitude to Major Y. Peter, district officer and Captain J. Vethamano for the hard work in getting this done. This has become a great memorial to the founder of The Salvation Army. The Territorial Commander appreciated Mr. Sivaganesakumar, contractor for his good work. May all who walk on this road recognize the love and compassion expressed by The Salvation Army.
