Editorial: The Spa by Captain Kathy See

Captain Kathy See,
Editor Revive | Don't you enjoy being pampered? At the spa, I can always count on getting a head massage with a hair wash, and, oh the soft music, the service offered: 'May we get you something to drink? Or how about a magazine?' So much attention given to ensure my satisfaction the pampering is luxurious! And the results are unbelievable: unkempt to restored, stressed to refreshed, lifeless to revived! I love having rounded nails painted with cute decorations and lustrously shining hair with each hair perfectly in place. Who doesn't? However, I just wish there was someone who would pamper me for free.
I had a friend who would actually pluck my eyebrows for me. My eyebrows grow so fast. She couldn't stand seeing a single eyebrow hair growing away from the others. She would get so frustrated with me because I would wait for her to pull it out rather than plucking it myself. 'Kathy,' she would say, 'you have to do this every day as soon as one starts growing, you have to pluck it!'
I spend more time dreaming of beauty spas than actually visiting them I know myself well enough to realise that after looking at the bill, I would start hyperventilating and leave the spa feeling ill rather than refreshed, relaxed and revived.
But, it is so hard to recreate a completely functional spa at home. I have tried. In my home where the male to female ratio is 3:1, a vital part of the spa experience is missing there is no 'girl talk'. And with two little boys jumping around my house doing karate moves (or on extra-silly days prancing around like awkward ballerinas), there is little space that I would call quiet or relaxing!
In the midst of the craziness, I can get a little unravelled at the ends. But I have found a way to make a substitute spa. I turn on soft music, get a hot drink and sit down in my cosiest chair. Then God starts to point things out to me in his Word and the pampering begins. We talk about intimate stuff. I get that daily 'plucking' and am gently revived by God. He restores my strength; he returns the life to my spirituality. God puts a new spirit in me.
This is my desire for each of you - that you go to your spa appointment and are welcomed by God; that you feel refreshed by his treatment and leave totally revived.
I really hope you enjoy this first issue of Revive. This magazine is not only for leaders, but for all women of all ages. Bring it with you to your spa appointment with God. Don't just read it; make it an invaluable tool in your ministry.
