The Prayer House

Women in Northern India join together in prayer for their community
In Northern India, including Orissa, Christians are losing their freedom to worship God openly. Hindu militants have turned on Christians; Christians account for 2.5 per cent of India. Hindu fanatics are outraged by the 'problem' of Christian conversion.

The result has been a direct attack on Christians. Christian orphanages, shops and homes have been destroyed, Christians killed, buildings burned and pictures of Jesus defaced. The message of Hindu protesters is clearly stated: convert or die. Christians in Northern India need our prayers.

Pray for:

  1. Christians who have lost everything, that they may receive practical help to rebuild their lives
  2. Local authorities, that they will be ready to engage in peace discussions and will have the courage to defend Christians from further attacks
  3. Christians to regain their freedom of worship

Residents of the Salvation Army boys' hostel in Paburia review the damage done by Hindu militants
A Salvation Army boys' hostel in Paburia (where the boys received their education) was destroyed by Hindu militants. The boys were forced to run into the forest without food or shelter. By God's grace, each child returned home safe and unharmed. Yet, the loss was great. The boys have no school building or hostel, have lost their uniforms and all books, and have had to interrupt their education until it is safe to return to their hostel.

Pray for:
  1. Future plans to build another boys' home
  2. The replacement of material supplies, such as uniforms and textbooks
