The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women 56th Session 29/02/2012
The 56th session of the Commission on the Status of Women will take place at
the United Nations Headquarters in New York from Monday 27 February to Friday 9
March 2012.
The empowerment of rural women and their role in poverty
and hunger eradication, development and current challenges are the priority
themes this year.
At the same time as the UN event, an NGO CSW Event
is also held. The NGO CSW Forum is an open process, a democratic space where
boys and girls, men and women can advocate for gender equality, development and
peace.
These events are convened by the NGO Committee on the Status
of Women, NY (NGO/CSW/NY) in co-operation with our sister organisations in
Geneva and Vienna. We are a volunteer based organisation, funded largely by
donations and contributions by members and participants.
The
Salvation Army takes an active part in this event each year. One of our
representatives, Ms. Hannah Pho, took part last year as a
presenter and speaks about her experience in the video below along with other
delegates from around the world.
In this video Kayla Calvo speaks about the powerful influence CSW55 (March 2011) had in her life.
