Go Straight For Souls, And Go For The Worst back to 'William Booth - Famous Words'
The origin of these words is apparently linked with the General's campaign to win 100 000 souls in six months (November 1889 - April 1890).
It first appeared in The War Cry - 16 November 1889 page 10 col.3: ' "Go Straight For Souls, And Go For The Worst" ...Right you are General; we're in to do our upmost to win many towards the one hundred thousand...'
From January 1898, it seems to have been adopted as a slogan to accompany the title of 'The Officer' [No.1 Vol.6] until its last appearance (in this context) with the heading of 'The Field Officer' - January 1906 [No.1 Vol.14].
