Salvation Army’s Community Venture South Developmental Day Program really knows how to celebrate Christmas!
This year's show was set in the old Beverley Hillbillies mansion. Grannie is cooking up a storm and cousin Jethro is always trying to take a nibble of her vittles. There’s a knock at the door and it is Jane Hathoway and the Drysdales. They are invited in and the party begins. The tunes start rolling and the jokes are a flying in this comical Hillbilly Christmas. You catch yourself rocking with everybody when tunes like “ Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”, “Jingle Bell Rock”, “Holly Jolly Christmas”, and “Go Tell It On The Mountain” are played.

The audience roared with laughter as the actors skillfully moved in and out of song and hilarious dialogue. The audience also sang along to some old favourites.
There is a last knock on the door the folks find a lonely waitress from the local café who just couldn’t walk by when she heard their joyful song and smelled the good country cooking. Being the loving folks they are, they invited her in and gave her a gift and shared their meal with her. The actors welcomed the audience to break bread with all of the staff and members and were treated to some special foods prepared by the program members. The audience was left with the message that it is important to invite others to share in your blessings.
The program was packed with standing room only. Admission was free but the audience willingly contributed to the "tin for the bin" tradition and the program gathered two large garbage cans full of non perishables. The program members who volunteer at a local Salvation Army Centre brought the food over to share. The audience was treated to a craft, bake and art show.
Those who may have felt a little like Scrooge when they came in left feeling like good ole Kris Kringle.
