History was made when the Caribbean Territory held its first Social Justice Conference in June, 2009. The conference was sponsored by Australia Southern Territory and discussion was centred around a series of objectives as follows:

  1. To empower Caribbean Salvation Army officers to complement our historical mission with God’s call to pursue justice for all in today’s world;
  2. For the Army in the Caribbean to become aware of the Army’s policies and practices on justice in the international arena;
  3. To give Caribbean officers an opportunity to become a part of The Salvation Army’s strategic voice to advocate for human dignity and social justice;
  4. To become aware of ways in which the Army in the Caribbean can engage other organizations to advance the cause of global justice;
  5. To enable Caribbean officers to challenge and address human inequity and injustices in our Caribbean context.

The ISJC was grateful for the commitment by the leaders of the Caribbean Territory (Colonels Onal and Edmane Castor) to signal social justice as a cause to advance. Their participation throughout the conference and the subsequent continuing dialogue between the Territory and the ISJC concerning this biblical concept, are reasons enough to believe that the seeds sown at this conference will take root and grow within the Territory.
